Short Abstract
Free humans think differently. In our fast-paced, global, digital, VUCA world, the key problem is that leaders who use their freedom irresponsibly, i.e. overcontrol, overdemand, or overpromise, are unaware that they can systemically lower engagement (Gallup 2017) and responsibility, i.e. response-ability, in teams. In business ethics, this problem can be reframed as a low ability to invest in trust in teams and thus creates harmful conditions for effective and responsible teams (Suchanek 2015). The author practices, reflects, and illuminates the research question: How can reflection build trust in teams?
This dissertation aims to show that good leadership in a VUCA world should guide and invite teams to reflect every day how to invest in trust. This conclusion integrates both theoretical and empirical findings: Theoretically, the Ethical Compass for Good Leadership (Suchanek 2018) will serve as a reflection tool to guide and align team practice. Practically, semi-structured interviews with leaders will engage diverse insights and integrate experiences on how to invest in trust through reflection in teams. For team praxis, it will be demonstrated how liberating structures (Lipmanowicz & McCandless 2013) can be used to facilitate, i.e. liberate and structure, team interaction and reflection to build trust every day.
